Fentanyl seller arrested for manslaughter

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office said deputies arrested Michael Stanley for manslaughter in Green Cove Springs, after an arrest warrant was issued on September 16, by the State Attorney’s Office.

The warrant arose from the May 11 Fentanyl overdose death of 31-year-old Aleksejs Kovilov. Illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia were present at the scene of his death and an autopsy determined that Kovilov died of a drug overdose that included Fentanyl. Narcotics detectives with the sheriff’s office discovered communications between the deceased and Stanley on Kovilov’s cell phone about purchasing narcotics. Detectives obtained video surveillance on May 10, 2022, showing a meeting with Kovilov and Stanley at a local retail store. During that meeting, Kovilov purchased 0.5 grams of Fentanyl for $80.00 via a cash app account belonging to Stanley.

The agency said that after the arrest, Stanley admitted to selling Fentanyl to Kovilov.
