How domestic violence affects children

Quigley House said its team spoke to parents at Episcopal Children’s Services in Orange Park about domestic violence and how it affects children.

The group said children might react to violence by feeling responsible for the abuse, exhibiting grief, anxiety, embarrassment, or guilt, and experiencing fear of abandonment or being harmed.

Quigley House added that older youth might react to domestic violence by exhibiting anxiety, withdrawal, poor self-image, low academic achievement, and dropping out of school.
