Hurricane Ian delays distribution of vote-by-mail ballots

Clay County’s Elections Office said mail-in ballots for the Nov. 8 general election were to be mailed to voters on Thursday, Sept. 29. However, the office is holding off sending the ballots to voters until Monday, Oct. 3 because of Hurricane Ian.

Earlier this month, the office sent 2,904 ballots to military personnel under the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act.

October 11 is the deadline to register for the November general election, and voters may still request mail-in ballots.

Earlier this month, the office sent 2,904 ballots to military personnel under the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act.

The office reported that 32% of Clay County citizens voted by mail in the Aug. 23 primary.  Forty-four percent voted on Election Day, while 24% voted early in person. Turnout was 25%.
