St. Johns Classical opening second campus

St. Johns Classical Academy will open a second campus on Kingsley Avenue in Orange Park in August 2023.

The school said in a social media post that it originally planned to open a second campus in Lake Asbury but that rising interest rates and construction costs made the construction cost prohibitive.

“Recently, we were presented with a tremendous opportunity to rehabilitate a former charter school in Orange Park located at 1324 Kingsley Avenue,” the school said. “This will be a smaller opening in August 2023 with only 360 students (grades K-3, five classes each grade). Our plan is to add a grade level each year, ultimately becoming a K-12 school.”

The school added that it would revisit the proposed campus in Lake Asbury when construction costs and interest rates fall.

The school’s current campus is at the intersection of Canova Road and County Road 220 in Fleming Island. Its headmaster is former Camp Blanding Commander and current Green Cove Springs Mayor Matt Johnson.

St. Johns Classical Academy is a Hillsdale College member school. It graduated its first senior class of 22 students in May 2022.

It is a charter school funded by Clay County Public Schools and charges no tuition.
