Trucks depart fairgrounds for hurricane relief

Clay County Fair Executive Director Tasha Hyder said the joint effort between her organization and the sheriff’s office sent five box trucks, three semis, a 25-foot hay trailer, a smaller trailer and Hyder’s Subaru to southwest Florida.

Items donated for hurricane relief included 7,500 pounds of animal food, 300 bales of hay and 30,000 individual items.

Hyder added that the Mercer County Fair in Ohio sent a semi-full of goods to the Green Cove Springs Fairgrounds for continued distribution to the affected area.

Destinations for the donations include Pine Island, Ft. Myers Beach, Cape Coral, Estero and Southwest Horse Rescue.
