Youth athletic group supports family after fatal crash

The Orange Park Athletic Association held a prayer vigil Thursday night, Sept. 22 to support the family of a 2-year-old killed in a crash last week.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the toddler, later identified as Rowan Patterson, and a 16-year-old were crossing A1A north of Vilano Beach in St. Johns County when a car struck the two. The crash occurred after 10 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16. The 16-year-old, Tayden Wiley, remains in a hospital intensive care unit.

The organizer of the prayer vigil, OPAA Commissioner Rob Baker told News4Jax.com that the association is organizing a tournament to support the family. A GoFundMe account has raised nearly half of the $50,000 goal the organizer set for the effort.
